Scotland. Where fantasy, mystery, and folklore abound. A place of untold stories and forgotten paths.

A place where legends run awry.

Fifteen-year-old Monte moves to the mystically jeopardized Highlands of Scotland and discovers that life as a Celtic wizard is anything but easy. Whisperings of abnormal enchantments and vicious cat siths grip the small town he now calls home. Fear is at the helm and the instigator is unknown. An indefinite moratorium on magic is enforced. In a race against darkness, Monte and his friends must choose who to trust before time runs out, even if it means breaking some rules and facing danger head on.

Excerpt:

“Fort William is your father’s hometown,” Mrs. Darrow added. “You probably won’t remember much; you were quite young the last time we visited.”

“Aye,” Mr. Darrow answered as they stepped through the archway onto a path overgrown with moss. The earthy lane extended a short way ahead of them before joining with a crumbly sidewalk that lined an even more decrepit road. Fields, full of sleepy pre-autumn grass, stretched in an abundance of acreage on the other side of the road. The sky, burdened with a collection of wooly gray clouds, smelled of the luscious nectar of the land.

“Ah . . .” Mr. Darrow closed his eyes, a grin teasing his mouth. “It’s good to be home.”

“Welcome te Scotland, yeh bonnie bunch!” a cheery voice trailed from the sidewalk ahead. A small pixie of a woman with hair the color of strawberry cream danced around excitedly, several paces in front of them. Although wrinkles corrugated her face, she emitted a sense of matronly style. Her baby-fine hair fluffed over her head in short, playful tufts, perfectly poised yet with the potential for craziness.

“Mum!” Mr. Darrow exploded into a squeal.

“Oh wow, Grandmother Meriweather hasn’t changed a bit.” Monte turned to Garrick.

“And Dad . . .” Garrick cocked an eyebrow. “He’s reverted back to a six-year-old. Look at him, doing the potty-dance and everything.”

Monte chuckled.

Grandmother Meriweather bounded toward them with open arms. “Ah, yer here at long last!” She reached Mr. Darrow first. “Esca, how’d you manage at the portals? Yer looking overworked, I see. Vanessa, dear!”

The words spilled from her mouth, her Scottish accent thick and rich. “Garrick, son! I hardly recognized yeh,” she said, using the highest form of endearment as she cupped his cheeks in the palms of her hands. “Ah, and Monte. My, how you’ve stretched!” She placed her hands on his shoulders. “Welcome, son.” Her radiant blue eyes looked up at his. “Welcome te Scotland, the Land of True Enchantment.”

About the Author

Ryder Hunte Clancy has lived most of her life in the desert but her heart belongs to the sea; her happy place, where brine and mist abound and allusive waves caress expansive stretches of compacted sand. A tried and true stay-at-home mom, she has just as much trouble keeping up with her fictional, teenage characters as she does her three small children. Mystic Invisible is her debut novel, the inspiration of which was gleaned from her husband’s homeland of Scotland, where fantasy, mystery, and folklore are rich and hints of adventure linger around every corner.
