About the Author

Wife of one. Mom of three plus a Beagle.

Well, at least that’s how I’m described in the confines of my everyday life.

​Writing has always been second nature to me. I spent my childhood creating short stories and my collegiate years writing for the campus paper (Go TERPS!) Jump twenty years to the present–I’m still writing. At my day job I spend most of my time writing capability briefs, white papers, proposals–you name it.

Then one day it hit me! It was time to access my own creative power and bring to life the characters I’ve created in my mind.

In addition to enjoying life with my amazing family, I can usually be found with my head in a book, binging my favorite shows, and watching movies with jaw-dropping scores! (I love all things Danny Elfman!)

“Sophia, you always knew the risks.”

“No! I knew the potential for risks. I never knew I would be facing an actual risk before taking my oath!”

Obviously exasperated, Sister Helen shouted, “Neither did I!”

As the words left her mouth, a strong force rammed against the door, presumably the hellhound trying to make his way inside again.

Panic seized me as I realized there was no way out. “Sister Helen, how are we getting out of here? And what exactly is going on?”

Detecting the hysteria in my voice, she crossed the room and placed a hand on my cheek. “Sophia, you have a long road ahead of you before you are safe, so I need you to find the courage to carry on.”

I nodded, not completely understanding her words.

She dropped her hand. “That man out there is Satan.”

“I know,” I interrupted.

She fixed me with an admonishing glare, and I shut my mouth.

“I don’t know how he found out about this place, but he did. We’ve kept something from him for years—a book and a black onyx sphere—and I’m sure that’s why he’s here now. To seek his revenge.”

“Then just give him what he wants!”

“I can’t do that. What he wants is far too precious. Besides, I don’t have those items anymore. I sent them away with Jordan.”

“Jordan? He’s involved in this?” I had grown up with Jordan at the orphanage and we were so close, we were practically siblings. I didn’t know if I should feel betrayed by his secrecy, or relieved that I wasn’t in this alone.

“It was his trial of trust.”

“He’s a Sacrarium Novice, too?”

There was another thud against the door.

“We don’t have time for this!”
